What is We Got Frenched?

There are plenty of websites that can tell you how to order coffee in France.

This isn't one of them.

We Got Frenched began after my partner and I sold a perfectly good life in California, moved to rural France, bought a 250-year-old winery, and discovered that almost everything we thought we knew about starting over was wrong.

At first I wrote to help Americans navigate the practical side of moving here. Visas. Banking. Healthcare. Paperwork. Dogs. The things nobody tells you until you're standing in France wondering what the hell just happened.

But over time, something else happened. The stories became bigger than the move.

Today, We Got Frenched is about building a meaningful life after sixty, embracing uncertainty, laughing at yourself, and discovering that the things which make the best stories are usually the things you never planned.

Yes, you'll find practical advice if you're considering a move to France. You'll also find stories about old houses, vineyards, food, wine, neighbors, bureaucracy, travel, two Golden Retrievers, and the daily surprises that come from living in a country that refuses to cooperate with your expectations.

Most of all, you'll find honest stories. Not stories about the perfect French life. Stories about real life, told with humor, curiosity, and the occasional glass of wine.

If you've ever wondered what it might feel like to start over, you're in the right place.

Welcome.
